Studio Bedroom Living Room Ideas – Does size really matter? I’ll let you be the judge. Mall here, back to show you the full tour of our 500 square foot studio apartment and how we maximized every inch. It was truly a labor of love. I am extremely grateful to M for the opportunity and to all the EHD readers for your support along the way. Seriously, thanks. This Make Over Takeover (MOTO) allowed me to work with such amazing brands and make my first adult apartment something special!! This post is full of space planning ideas, hacks for renters, and out-of-the-box decorating ideas. I hope you can take something from this and leave your home feeling inspired regardless of its size.

My boyfriend, Chase, and I had zero furniture when we moved in (like, not even a mattress or bed), so we really had to build from the ground up. After hundreds of renders, Home Depot runs, and lots of trial and error, here we are!!!

After all the blood, sweat and tears I can’t believe my eyes are finally looking at these beautiful photos! This shot above is what you see when you first walk in (well, you walk into the kitchen, but it’s all one room, so this is the main view). The dining nook is one of the main stars of the space and is always the first thing that people comment on when they enter (all the details are here if you want a step by step!) It was not going to be custom made. Kona – I don’t have a garage or work space for this and I don’t know how to operate any power tools, so I had to be smart about how I could get it ready/Delivery Options. The benches are line benches in design and have an incredible amount of storage, plus the quality is insane. I combined a small and a large size to make this corner base and it’s just perfect. So I used a company called Stitchroom to make custom pillows and they absolutely nailed it.

As I said before, Parker Palm Springs and the Sands Hotel were my two main points for this space, but I wanted to create a more stripped down and neutral version that felt calm and livable. AKA I wanted to combine the fun and daring style of Palm Springs mid-century modern with the cool of informal California.

The huge pendant lamp in my dining room is similar to Norma’s light in The Pink Cabana at Sands and Parker (pictured above), so when I found this light shade from World Market (not as useful, but this is These are similar), I knew it was the perfect addition to the design of Palm Springs and would constantly remind me of my favorite place on earth.

It also draws the eye upwards (which is important in a small space) and brings more light into the space (we don’t have overhead lighting anywhere in the main space like many apartment buildings which is a really cool design choice) . . Because it’s a plug-in light, turning it on and off was always a “thing” because I had to reach the corner and switch it manually. That was until I found it – watch this video to see how it works. This is great. If you are a renter, or if you just want it for your Christmas tree/decor, I highly recommend snacking!

Design Spotlight: How To Maximize The Most Out Of A Studio Apartment

We have fun in a small space like this. The nook really made it possible for us to seat people comfortably (and believe it or not, we had 7+ people sitting there at a time which was never possible before).

I also have another living room layout hack that I’ll show you later when I get to the desk area… you’ll see how we fully decorate this “living room” when we entertain. Everyone asks me about this trusty epic, it’s from Industry West and it’s literally perfect in every way. The stick is great because we put our speakers and so on here and the sound always comes through, so I don’t have to put all these big speakers in the open. The gray rug is from Annie Selke and they were sent by two which were perfect because our space is freakishly long, so we put the two rugs next to each other, then this little strip Wally put in a flatweave rug you don’t have not. You can’t see the seams of the carpet. I highly recommend doing this if you need a random rug size – it made our space so big and cozy!

The gallery wall was one of the last elements I added to the space and it gave it so much flavor that I can’t even say. I hung most of them with command strips (and they held for years). The beach art prints are by Gabby Sullivan, a local celebrity artist, who I met at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. His work perfectly captures the iconic beaches with a vintage twist – and I found out that the girl in the bottom right picture is Bing Crosby’s niece! So some of these photos I actually took, edited in black and white, and printed/framed myself (the photo of the MCM Stahl House with two smaller prints below is a great example of my photography of the iPhone is one of the pictures). ).

Well, how good is that $20 jar? Bowser pulled it out and I immediately bought one to live there permanently on the dining room table. A simple money saving tip I did to make this gallery wall uber affordable was to buy some frames in bulk and then orient them in different ways. I bought a 4-pack of 16×20 frames and hung some vertically and some horizontally, then spread them out on the gallery wall. So for the rest of the frames, I bought most of them at Target because they are a real deal there!! Okay, now I’ll tell you about my “living room” layout hack.

Welcome to the desk area!! ok It’s super comfortable and deep so you can sit in it for hours. Best of all, we rotate it when friends come over and then return to the dining nook chair to create a conversation area with the article’s leather love seat. We comfortably seat four like this which is a decent amount in this space, but I like this hack because otherwise we don’t have the living room or host people.

You can see a bit of the kitchen here, honestly it hasn’t changed much since the day we moved in, so if you want to see more, check things out first at the beginning of the post. The apartment complex was designed by Commune, so we were lucky to be in such good hands with the finish and overall design of the space.

It’s like my own boutique hotel room!! The other thing I didn’t say before about Palm Springs that I really tried to bring with me through the design was the idea that in the heyday of PS, the city was known as the Hollywood Oasis, where celebrities find equal refuge. And play, out of the way of Los Angeles. It quickly became my design mission statement and I really think we nailed it. I have all the details on how I built this back wall here if you’re looking for a more in-depth explanation. It was a huge process with a lot of trial and error, but MAN the result was worth it in the end!
