Very Small Bedroom Decor Ideas – With summer quickly passing by, we wanted to finish one last project on the cottage before we close for the season. A few months ago we moved Chloe’s bedroom into a loft and created a teenage bedroom. This left us with room for our guests and this small bedroom to work in while we were at the cottage.

We wanted to breathe new life into this small space and create a really fun living room. Since this is a seasonal cottage and the room is rarely used, I didn’t want to spend a little money on this makeover. So I asked my interior designer to find budget bedroom decorating ideas that are not expensive but still stylish.

Very Small Bedroom Decor Ideas

Small bedrooms come with some very unique challenges. Floor space for bedroom furniture is limited. Wall surfaces can be covered by windows and doors, leaving little room for wall art. Bedrooms may lack natural light, storage, or architectural details, making the room feel boxy and characterless.

But those elements allow us to express our personal style and creativity. Now is the chance to implement a great idea that you were afraid to use in your bedroom, experiment with paint colors or get creative with old furniture. Here are 10 small bedroom decorating ideas that are cheap, easy, and high-style on a budget.

Transforming a small bedroom into a space full of charm and character can be a creative and rewarding endeavor. One of the best ways to inject personality into your small abode is to choose a thoughtful design theme. Start by brainstorming ideas that match your personal style and preferences or the location of your home.

Our cottage is in a wooded part of the country. The area is surrounded by lakes, beaches, rolling farmland, vineyards and provincial parks – we are surrounded by great design inspiration! I’ve always loved sailing and coastal life, but I wanted to give the country a nod. A warm palette, nautical accessories and sailing photos bring these two loves together in this room.

Whether you’re interested in the rustic charm of a cozy cabin or the elegance of vintage glamour, a theme can inform your bedroom design. Start by choosing decor elements, colors and furniture pieces that match the theme.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money – just a few well-chosen key pieces are enough to liven up the space. For example, if you’re going for a beach-inspired theme, consider soft blue walls and white bedding, seashell decor accents on the nightstand, and natural textures like rattan baskets or wicker lampshades. By sticking to a theme, you’ll create a cohesive and visual space that reflects your unique taste.

When it comes to bedroom decorating ideas on a budget, one of the most effective ways to add instant impact and personality is to adopt a bold color scheme. Choosing bright and bold colors will fill your bedroom with energy and personality.

Choose an unusual dominant color to start. Consider giving your walls a fresh coat of green, brown, deep blue or yellow.

To prevent a room from becoming overwhelming, balance wall colors with neutral shades like white, gray or beige and incorporate them into bedding, furniture or window treatments.

Although the rest of our cottage is mostly white and off-white, I decided that this room needed a color palette that was warm and cozy.

The old pale blue walls and gingham wallpaper accent wall were fun and summery, but I wanted a bigger and quieter room. Pink walls (a roasted marshmallow color match from Martha Stewart) give this small room a whole new look and sleepy feel. It only took one tin of paint to make a big impact.

Decorating a bedroom on a budget can be a fun adventure, especially if you’re open to the treasures of flea markets and thrift stores. These hidden gems, like this worn and damaged oar and sail photo, can be the key to unlocking your bedroom’s unique character.

Start by making a list of what you need, whether it’s furniture, decor, or accessories, and feel free to head to your local flea market or thrift store. Look for pieces with good bones and keep an eye out for small decorative items like vintage mirrors, picture frames or baskets, which can add charm in countless ways. The beauty of thrift decorating is that it’s not only cost-effective, but it’s also a great way to create a truly unique bedroom.

Ideas For Decorating A Small Bedroom In The Eaves –

In a small bedroom, you want to use every inch. A bedside table lamp can take up valuable space on your nightstand, so why not use vertical space and wall mount it instead.

Wall-mounted lamps or sconces, especially the twist-handle variety, are a great way to balance functionality and style while using less space. Here I chose a plug-in wall lamp. Not only did I save on getting an electrician, but the wall sconce can easily illuminate a traditional nightstand and bed (great for reading at night!).

Consider optimizing your space with multi-purpose furniture and smart storage solutions. Wall-mounted shelves and floating nightstands can free up floor space. Baskets can be used to enclose small items and can be pulled out when needed. Finally, hook rails or wall hooks can decorate bare walls and provide a landing spot for clothes and accessories.

Textiles are the cheapest and easiest way to decorate small spaces. This soft and versatile material has the potential to enhance the beauty of your bedroom without breaking the bank. Start by choosing a color palette or theme that matches your style. Then consider mixing and matching patterns and textures to add depth and interest to your space.

Place a variety of decorative pillows and blankets on your bed for a cozy and inviting touch, which can also add some extra color or texture to your bedroom. Additionally, carpets can make a significant impact on the bedroom. Check out budget-friendly area rugs or consider layering smaller rugs for an eclectic look.

I’m sure every room could use a plant. Artificial or live plants, floral arrangements or dramatic stems, plants bring an element of nature into your bedroom. You can find the right plants for your room at the lowest cost. Place it next to the bed to create a charming vignette, or sit on a shelf or stack of books for interest.

Plants not only purify the air, but also add a calming and refreshing element to your decor. If you’re feeling crafty, you can create your own planters from recycled or thrifted materials to add a personal touch to your bedroom greenery.

Use airy furniture to make your small bedroom feel light and spacious. Choose pieces with attractive legs, such as vintage-turned-table nightstands or shaker-style tables, to keep your room functional without cluttering it with dark and heavy furniture.

11 Bedroom Wall Decor Ideas To Transform Boring Walls

An easy way to create a memorable room is to paint the walls, trim, doors or furniture a contrasting color.

The door to this bedroom and the doors to all the rooms in the cottage are painted a dark gray-green (weathervane by PARA Paints). A stylish touch like this can transform a boring bedroom into an attractive and budget-friendly abode that shines with bold and beautiful colors.

Don’t underestimate the power of light in the bedroom. The right lighting can enhance the atmosphere and reinforce the design theme. Whether it’s a rustic chandelier for a farmhouse theme or modern lamps for an urban rooftop aesthetic, lighting can make a significant contribution to the overall ambiance.

I used a simple school lamp for the general lighting of this room. There is also an inexpensive black and brass table lamp to work on the desk and a crocheted hand lamp next to the bed. Having multiple sources of warm light creates a dynamic room that can easily change mood and lighting conditions.

One of the cheapest ways to decorate your small room is to create a gallery wall. You can put together an eye-catching display using framed photos or prints, inexpensive artwork, or interesting objects. Your gallery wall speaks volumes about your personal style and adds charm to your sanctuary.

I was delighted to find a pile of old sailing photos in an antique shop. Printed in the 60s and 70s, these black-and-white photographs, with ragged edges and some handwritten details, capture the fun and adventure of sailing. New art doesn’t have the same appeal or story to tell. Framed with modern matching frames and displayed above the cabinet, the wall decor creates a stunning focal point in the room.

Finally, consider DIY projects to personalize your space. You can paint old furniture pieces with complementary colors or create unique wall art using inexpensive canvases
